Today, Daylight Burrito is my alarm clock. If you haven’t heard of Daylight Burrito, I’m happy to enrich your life with the secret of Greenville’s greatest breakfast burrito. Daylight Burrito describes themselves as “an almost every other Saturday pop-up” serving incredibly fresh and flavorful carne asada and chorizo burritos to those fortunate enough to make the cutoff. I say fortunate because it isn’t a question of *if* they will sell out, it’s a question of *when*. Today, they were scheduled to be at Scout’s Doughnuts (review coming soon) from 8-11am. When I arrived at 9:15am, there was already a line to the end of the strip mall to place an order, and a parking lot full of people already waiting on their beautiful burritos. I’ve been to Daylight Burrito three times now, and each time I’ve been the harbinger of the end; today was no different. I placed the final order for carne asada at 9:15am, a mere hour and fifteen minutes after they opened. For anyone that hasn’t been yet, you might think that means they were unprepared, but the reality is that the Daylight Burrito rush is so fast, they had served an entire morning’s worth of burritos by 9:15. I guess what I’m saying is, if you want it (and I promise you do!), it’s going to involve being there early.

The burritos themselves are extremely filling and loaded with ingredients. I’ve had both the Carne Asada and the Chorizo, and for me, they are interchangeably delicious. I think people tend to shy away from Chorizo because they’ve had a prior experience where it was too greasy, but Daylight knows how to balance it, and I haven’t had any such issues with their Chorizo. The Carne Asada comes with Seasoned steak, fresh fries, creamy guacamole, cheese, and fluffy egg, and the Chorizo burrito substitutes the Carne for Pork sausage. These burritos are *filling*; I ate half of mine and saved the other half for lunch. Everything down to the grilled-to-order tortillas are handled with care, and it’s easy to see after one bite why they have a reputation for incredible fare. Add to that their legendary orange house sauce, served on the side, and you’ll quickly empathize with the folks that thought 9:45am would be early enough to snag a bite of ambrosia.

I spoke with the owner, Richie, to ask about their plans for a brick and mortar location, and he said that they are still looking for the perfect spot. Selfishly, I hope they pick a spot in my neck of the woods, but until they do, look for me in line at their next pop-up! Interested in trying Greenville’s Greatest breakfast burritos?
